TheBitporterchoosesbetweenitsEthernetinterfaceanditsUSBinterfacebasedsolelyupon
whetherDCpowerisbeingprovidedatthe“+5VDC”jack.
If DC power is being provided, then only the Ethernet interface is active, and the USB
interfaceisignoredbythepod,evenifnoEthernetcable
ispluggedin.
IfnoDCpowerisbeingprovided,andthepodisconnectedtoa poweredUSBport,thenthe
USB interface is active, and the Ethernet interface is ignored, even if the Ethernet cable is
pluggedin.
Sincethe pod requires power,if the podisnotconnectedto either
theDC powercable or a
powered USB port, the pod will not work. (The Bitporter will not work when connected to
UnpoweredUSBports.)
Important! ErrorsmaybereportedwhenboththeUSBcableandthe DCpowercableareconnected,at
leastfromtheUSB‐connectedPC.ThatPCmay
attempttoconnectviatheUSBinterface, butsincethe
Bitporteritselfisignoringthatinterface,theconnectionprotocolcanfailinunusualways.Toavoid
problems,donotconnectbothDCpowerandUSBsimultaneously.

BeforeconnectingtheBitporterpod,pleaseobservethefollowing:
•Do not plug in the Bitporter USB cable until after the software installation (see
Chapter 2 – “SoftwareandDriverInstall”).
•WhenusingtheUSBinterface,donotplugintheDCpowercable.TheDCpowercable
isonlyusedfortheEthernetinterface.When
usingtheUSBint erface,allpowertothe
BitporterpodisprovidedthroughtheUSBcable.
Note: WhentheDCpowercableispluggedintotheBitporter,theBitporterignorestheUSB
interfaceandonlyutilizestheEthernetinterface.
•BesuretohavetheappropriateUSBdriversinstalled.SeeChapter 2 – “Softwareand
Driver
Install”fordetails.

ToconnecttheBitporterpodtothetargethardware:
1. Turnoffthepowertothetargethardware.
2. ConnectoneendoftheJTAGflatribboncabletothetargetJTAGconnector.Thered
stripispin 1.
Note: Ifthetar getJTAGconnectorisnotkeyed,thetar get’sUserGuidewillspecifythe
location
ofpin1onthetargetJTAGconnector.
3. ConnecttheotherendoftheJTAGflatribboncabletotheBitporterpod.Theplugis
keyed.
4. ConnecttheUSBcabletothehostPC.
5. ConnecttheUSBcabletotheBitporter.
6. (OnlyexpectedthefirsttimetheBitporterisplugged
intotheUSBport:)
